Today was the Pine wood Derby and I have to say our experience was mostly down this year. First off they don't have individual pack derby races here which is the way I've always seen in done. Then the winners from the dens of the packs go to the district Derby race. Well here in good ol'e Fayetteville (and across our whole district) all they do is a district race. So about 100 boys not including parents and syblings (they can race in and "open class" race) get together and race. Last year we had to travel about 45 minutes to the place where it was held. This year we got to drive 1 hour and 20 minutes away (oh goody). Chris worked last night so we met up with him by the interstate and then he rode with us. It was held at a skating rink, of all places. The sound system they were using kept screetching and scarrying Amelia so bad that Chris had to take her out side because she was scared and wanted to go home. The boys as you can imagine after walking in soon forgot about the race since there were walls and walls of video games and an open snack bar. FINALLY they called all the boys to the other end of the rink floor. That sure cleared it out up where we were at and then the girls sat up in the video games and played while they got the races started. Noah raced 3 times down the track. Lost all 3 times......and that was it. We were done. Up at 6 am, traveled almost an hour and a half waited more than an hour after getting there and 3 runs (5 minutes) and it's over!!!. We could have stayed and watched some of the other boys from our pack but Chris needed to be back to Fayetteville because he is taking some call for the hospital so we packed up and headed out. Noah got a participation certificate and a patch and that was all she wrote for this year.

Barn Star Project
This is my attempt at decoupaging this Barn Star. I got the star at Old Time Pottery. We are doing it as an Enrichment Activity this Sat. Another Sister is teaching the class but I wanted to do mine before hand so that I could help others. It turned out o.k. for my first try. There are some things I will do differently next time. But over all I think they are VERY CUTE. You could do all B&W or Sepia, but since I had all pictures of the kids I wanted it colorful and fun. Let me know what you think.

Amelia's and her New Glasses
I've known for a while that she was going to need glasses, but we waited for our vision insurance to kick in. We made her an appointment and my mom watched Eve and Ethan for me while Amelia and I went. It took sooooo LONG, but she was really really good. She was disappointed that she didn't get her glasses the same day. I told her they would call us on the phone when it was time to go pick them up. Everyday for the next week she asked if they had called and we could go get her glasses. When we went to get them the lady fitted them on her and she said they "were perfect" and then she looked around the big lobby and said "I see people". Poor thing must have been walking around in a big blur. Just this morning she woke up and came straight to me and said "look!" pointing to her eyes. And I said "What?" and she said "No glasses". She had fallen asleep last night in a chair in the Living Room so I took her glasses off and layed them up on top of the t.v. So we went straight away to get her glasses so she could put them on. I'm sooooo glad she can see now. Oh, and she wanted "PINK" glasses. It's hard to tell in the picture but they ar pink.

Little Boys + Dirt = Fun
Last week we had some super unseasonably warm weather for FEB. It was wonderful to let the kids get out and play in the back yard for a while. Ethan wandered around playing with a ball and following the girls around until he finally found a dirt pile worthy of his undevided attention. He went straight to the bath tub after playtime was over.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
Happy 2009! We did not ring in the new year last night. Chris had to work so Noah and I stayed up till about 10 and then I fell asleep on the couch so we headed to bed. We had a wonderful Christmas. Noah and Eve woke up at 1:30 a.m. We sent them into Noah's room to settle down and watch a movie. Chris told them we weren't getting up till 6 o'clock. They were rowdy and excited over their santa gifts and stockings so Chris had to get up twice and tell them to settle down. FINALLY at 4:45I told them to turn the t.v. off and lay down and rest and they fell asleep and no one got up till 8:30. I was really surprised. We opened presents about 8:45-9:00. I don't think I've ever in my life opened presents when the sun was up. Since we were having our own Christmas breakfast at home (not going out to the Argo's for breakfast which we've always done in the past) we took our time and had great morning. We headed to the Argo's about lunch time. We opened up more presents. We brought some of our Playstation games one which was guitar hero. We brought 2 guitars and everyone took turns playing. That went over well and we had fun playing against each other. We had dinner about 3 or so. It was yummy as was the desserts. We packed up and headed home about 7:30 I think. The kids were really pretty good the whole day. I'm thankful to have been able to celebrate Christmas together with my family and loved ones. I missed you all and wish we could have all been together. I pray that your new year is full of the most precious blessings. Everyone take care.
